E-CEPTIONIST®, SCHOOL OF HEALTH INFORMATION SCIENCES, AND YOUR DOCTOR PROGRAM LAUNCH HOUSTON
MEDICAL NETWORK TO SUPPORT KATRINA AND RITA MEDICAL RELIEF
Houston, Texas – E-Ceptionist, Inc. announced today that it was selected by Your Doctor Program, LLP (YDP)
and the University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences as its partner to manage different medical
networks that have resulted from hurricane Katrina. This partnership is now recognized as the Houston Medical
Network.
Initially, volunteers and medical staff at the George R. Brown Center, Reliant Arena, Astrodome and Disaster
Recovery Center were challenged with how to schedule and manage patients around the city. Your Doctor Program,
focused on accountability in healthcare, already utilizing E-Ceptionist, quickly expanded its capabilities to
capture evacuee information including demographic, patient, housing and discharge information. Going forward,
E-Ceptionist was recognized as the best engine available for YDP to manage the evacuee information and processes
associated with delivering healthcare to these patients in Houston. A summary of these items is included below.
- Clinic Management– Clinics in Houston that are providing services to the evacuees can use E-Ceptionist to manage
their clinic schedules.
- Centralized Scheduling - E-Ceptionist can be used by individual clinics as well as the centralized call centers to assist the evacuees in getting their appointments scheduled at the clinics around Houston. With YDP and E-Ceptionist, authorized participants in the network will have the ability to see a view of what clinic resources are available to ensure that evacuees are seen and treated quickly creating better accountability in healthcare.
- Reporting – Administrators can use E-Ceptionist to track all of the information captured during the healthcare process and use YDP’s best practices to improve healthcare.
- Telehealth Services –YDP has a telemedicine platform enhanced by E-Ceptionist’s Telehealth Manager that can be used by some of the clinics that are participating in the relief effort.
Your Doctor Program President, Mr. Steve Winter, emphasized the speed with which E-Ceptionist helped to deliver
their solution: “It was less than three days from the day we first contacted E-Ceptionist to the day we were up
and running and medical staff and volunteers were trained and evacuee information was entered into the system.
Given the chaos surrounding the natural disaster, the implementation of the service was very smooth." "E-Ceptionist
is honored to partner with YDP and the University of Texas and help the city of Houston manage the evacuees that
were effected by hurricane Katrina,” said an E-Ceptionist representative.
Your Doctor Program (www.yourdoctorprogram.com) assures an accountable and cost-effective system of care by placing
the patient and their primary care physician at the hub of a web-based private network. Focused on educating patients
about their roles and responsibilities in their healthcare, implementing a patent-pending outcomes program that provides
outcomes of care on all patient encounters with the healthcare system, YDP helps to create accountability in healthcare.
YDP works with insurance companies to develop effective pay-for-performance programs that improve overall patient care.
The priorities for the Houston Medical Network were defined by the principles for outcomes collection that YDP uses to
assure accountable networks of care.
The University of Texas School of Health Information Sciences (http://www.shis.uth.tmc.edu/) is the first School of its
kind in the country, established in 1997. It trains future leaders in informatics for the healthcare system.
Dr. Kim Dunn, Associate Dean of the School, stated that “a large number of volunteer students and community members
came forward to support the data collection efforts for the discharge summaries and the referral process into community
settings for the Houston Medical Network. In addition to the Houston Medical Network, students, staff, and faculty
assisted in organizing the medical records for the UT Clinic at George R. Brown, supported integration of the medical
and public health information management for George R. Brown and Astrodome, and supported the launch of the use of
“MOODLE”, an on-line courseware system to support the collaboration of the various agencies in the Greater Houston Area.”
Dr. Dunn said, “These prototype networks and evolving communities will provide important lessons for Houston to build
the infrastructure for the Greater Houston Regional Health Information Network”.
